Worldwide creativity: 2,537 works of art at the Flow competition in Schwedt!
A true art spectacle awaits us in Schwedt: The International drawing competition FLOW is entering the 58th round and can look forward to record participation. Over 2,537 drawings and paintings by talented children and young people from 22 countries were submitted, including young artists from Prenzlau and Templin. This shows how much creativity and innovative spirit there is in the next generation!
The diversity of the submissions is particularly evident in the special technique of the manga drawing working group from Templin, which combined watercolor painting and manga drawing techniques in their joint work “Our Dreams”. The works not only reflect childhood experiences, but also deal intensively with issues of environmental awareness. The international participation also includes participants from Great Britain for the first time.
Awards ceremony and exhibition
The winners will be honored on September 13th in the Great Hall of the Uckermärkische Bühnen. A selection of the best works will be on display in a two-week exhibition in the foyer from September 17th - Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The competition is a great platform for young artists to present their work to a wider audience. The organization of the competition in particular has proven successful in recent years and is supported by the Uckermark district and private donors.
Particularly noteworthy is the role of the Lower Oder Valley National Park, which is part of the competition and even awards a special prize. This year's winner, Hermine Gärtner, will be invited to an international art camp led by famous artist Alfred Prenzlow. The aim of this camp is to promote creative engagement with nature and its cultural spaces.
Art and environment in focus
The art camp, which will take place from September 9th to 13th, includes exciting activities such as a guided canoe tour through the core zone of the national park. Here, participants will bring their painting supplies and artistically capture various aspects of the wilderness. This creative connection to nature is a central concern of the competition, which impresses not only with its variety of entries, but also with the opportunity to bring together the topics of environmental awareness and children's perspectives.
Club chairman Konstanze Fischer and competition director Norbert Löhn have expressed concern in the past about the financing of the competition, which fortunately now appears to be secured. The competition is one of the largest painting and drawing competitions in Germany with an international reputation and attracts around 2,000 entries every year. This is further evidence that art should have an important place in our education system.
In a world where creative expression and environmental awareness are becoming increasingly important, the FLOW International Drawing Competition is an important step in encouraging young people to put their thoughts and ideas on paper. This competition combines creativity, nature and community in a very special way, and that is also the reason why it receives such a large number of entries. The coming months promise inspiration and discovery!
