Two drug cases in one day: Police sound the alarm in Angermünde!

A quiet day in Angermünde was suddenly disrupted on August 8, 2025, when the police had to intervene twice to punish drug abuse in traffic. Both cases involved a 40-year-old from Uckermark who apparently had a terrible instinct for safe driving.

What exactly happened? The first incident occurred in Kamp, where a Dacia driver attempted to evade a routine traffic stop. However, the escape ended quicker than expected because the police refused to be left behind. During the subsequent check it turned out that the driver was driving without a valid driving license. A rapid drug test showed a positive result. The vehicle has been seized and a report will follow.

Unsafe riding style on Pedelec

The second incident took place on Pestalozzistrasse. Here a man on a Pedelec was noticed because of his unsafe driving style in serpentine lines. Apparently he had an unmistakable feeling that his condition was not right, because he admitted during the check that he had consumed drugs. A breath alcohol test showed 0.31 per mille and during the following search the officers found substances similar to narcotics. The man eventually had to give a blood sample at the hospital and the case was handed over to the criminal investigation department.

The police are using these incidents to urgently appeal to all road users: “Anyone who consumes intoxicating substances should not get behind the wheel or choose another form of transport.” After all, drug use and driving are a dangerous combination that significantly endangers road safety. According to ADAC, even the smallest amounts of drugs in the blood can have serious consequences.

Legal consequences and information

The penalties for drug driving are clearly defined. If drugs are found in the blood, you can face a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine. The Police Advisory Service points out that the consumption of illegal substances such as cannabis, heroin or cocaine is not only a misdemeanor, but can even lead to criminal offenses if driving errors or endangering other road users.

Drug use, even without obvious symptoms at first glance, is punished as an administrative offense. Penalties range from fines of up to 1,500 euros and a driving ban of up to three months. In the worst case, novice drivers experience a two-year extension of their probationary period. The ADAC is therefore calling for increased education and controls in road traffic in order to minimize such incidents in the future.

In view of these incidents, it is once again clear that every road user has a responsibility to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. Drugs and traffic simply don't belong together.
