Bronze treasures: Cologne couple achieved record price at Bares for Rares!

In the popular ZDF program "Bares for Rares", two couples recently took the opportunity to present their precious bronze figures. While Laura Broermann and Achilleas Georgallidis from Cologne brought a family height in the studio, the siblings Lynn Veit and Yves Böttler from Hessen were looking for an impressive sculpture that has been in their family ownership for generations. Expert Bianca Berding was entrusted to bring light into the darkness of the origin and the value of the characters.

Laura and Achilleas had inherited a bronze memento from Laura's stepfather. Originally from his aunt, who, according to the family, could be depicted on the statue. But Berding's expertise showed that this assumption did not meet the truth. The figure comes from the hand of the well -known artist Bele Bachem, who had a great influence in Germany in the 1950s and was active in 1972. With a desired sales price of at least 300 euros, Laura and Achilleas were optimistic, but the actual estimate was 500 to 600 euros. Ultimately, dealers Benjamin Leo even offered 920 euros, which the couple made very happy.

bronze and their artistic importance

bronze is one of the oldest materials for sculptures and has been used for thousands of years to express power, beauty and creativity. This applies not only to ancient Greece and Rome, which used bronze for important statues and heroic figures, but also in modern art, where it plays a central role. In the Renaissance, for example, artists such as Donatello created realistic and dynamic figures made of bronze.

The siblings Veit and Böttler wanted to sell their bronze sculpture "The knife fighters", which was family -owned in 1960 and which was inherited by their great -grandfather. This sculpture is based on a design by the Swedish sculptor Molin and was poured in Nuremberg. The original is located in the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm, while there are other life -size specimens in other cities. According to the expert assessment, the figure could have a value between 4000 and 5000 euros, which was significantly above the desired price of the siblings of 3000 euros.

In the program, a bid competition rose in which the dealer Christian Vechtel entered the negotiations with a first bid of 1000 euros. Ultimately, they agreed on a price of 3000 euros, which shows that the bronze sculpture is valuable in both artistic and material sense.

The path of the bronze sculptures

The manufacturing process of a bronze sculpture is demanding and includes several steps. At first the artist designs a model of sound or wax. Then this model is enveloped to create a shape for the bronze cast. The wax is then melted and replaced by liquid bronze. After cooling, the shape is removed and a refinement begins to complete the aesthetics of the sculpture.

bronze sculptures are not only appreciated because of their durability and detailed elaboration, but also because of their ability to capture and communicate emotions. Artists such as Jeff Koons, Fernando Botero and Louise Bourgeois use bronze to manifest their visionary concepts in impressive works and to express them in both public and private collections.

bronze sculptures remain timelessly in their importance and attraction and are therefore an indispensable part of the modern art world. Whether as a work of art or heirloom - the fascination for bronze continues.
