Brown Bag Break: Exciting insights into promotions at the TU Chemnitz!

On June 24, 2025, the "Brown Bag Break" event will take place at the Technical University (TU) Chemnitz. This event aims at doctoral prospective, doctoral students and interested parties to scientific career. It offers the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Weinhold building, Reichenhainer Straße 70. Dr. Linda Jäckel from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Theo Döppers from the Faculty of Philosophy will report on her experiences and challenges during her doctorate, which are between semiconductor research and educational sciences. Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is recommended. A free lunch package is available for all participants to promote the discussion. The event is moderated by Dr. Laura Weyh, the rectorate representative for young scientists.

The event is part of a more comprehensive training program that will be offered by the Center for Young Scientists (ZFWN) from Chemnitz from March 20, 2025. uni-heute.de reported by over 20 events that are offered in German and English. These formats range from presence to online workshops and include topics such as starting the dissertation, dealing with artificial intelligence, disputation training and career strategies. Three subject-specific attendance events are planned for postdocs, including a lecture by Rector Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier about "successful leadership of appeal negotiations".

The upcoming events are designed for those interested in doctoral students, doctoral students and habiliters and offer many opportunities for personal and scientific development. From August 13th to September 10, 2025, the seminar series "Tkmental strategies - calmly for a doctorate" will also take place. This series, in cooperation with the Techniker Krankenkasse, focuses on coping with stress as well as personal and academic development. Participants will receive practical strategies for coping with stress and opportunities for network structure.

The German Research Foundation (DFG), the largest research promotion organization in Germany, has defined the promotion of early scientific career as a central goal. According to dfg.de are created by the DFG structures that promote predictable career paths and equal opportunities. This includes the provision of funding for projects and the qualification of scientists in early career phases. The DFG emphasizes that good care is essential for the success of young scientists and promotes mentoring offers and regular feedback talks.

at a time when the scientific career becomes increasingly complex, such initiatives are decisive to facilitate researchers into a successful and sustainable career. The center for young scientists at the TU Chemnitz and the DFG contribute significantly to this development and support the young scientists through diverse programs and offers.
