Germany wants to continue writing European Championship history against Poland!

On July 1, 2025 at 9 p.m. the time has finally come: Germany starts the Women's European Championship in St. Gallen with a thrilling duel against Poland. The opening game marks the first meeting between the two teams at a major tournament and expectations are accordingly high. The DFB team has always won against Poland in the past, including a victorious European Championship qualifier on June 4, 2024, which ended 3-1. Loud Sports show the team aims to continue this success story.

The weather should cooperate, as around 20 degrees and dry weather are forecast for St. Gallen. Captain Giulia Gwinn expects Poland to fight passionately. However, it emphasizes the DFB team's own focus, which is anchored in the defensive game of national coach Christian Wück. “It will be crucial that we play to our strengths,” explains Gwinn.

The stars of the DFB team

A look at the squad shows that 23 players were nominated by Christian Wück, all of whom have great ambition. Linda Dallmann, for example, is aiming for the European Championship title at the third attempt, while former captain Alexandra Popp looks back on her playing days and sees her decision not to play anymore as positive. A special highlight will be the rainbow armband that Gwinn will wear during the tournament to symbolize diversity.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is optimistic about how the tournament will go. After all, the team showed a strong performance in the Nations League before the European Championships and won against the Netherlands 4-0 and against Austria 6-0. This means the DFB team is one of the favorites for the title, which would mean their ninth European Championship success ran reported.

Broadcast and events

Fans can watch the game live on free TV: The broadcast rights are shared by ARD and ZDF, with ARD starting the broadcast at 8:15 p.m. A free live stream on Joyn is also offered. For digital technology enthusiasts, a live ticker is available on ran.de or in the ran app, which is available in the Apple and Android stores. The DFB team is also planning family days in the hotel after the games in order to offer the players a relaxed atmosphere.

A documentary entitled “Shootingstars” will accompany the players during their stay at the tournament. An interesting side note: Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has not yet decided whether she will take part in future tournaments, which creates additional excitement about her sporting future. The anticipation for the first kick-off against Poland could hardly be greater!
