Committed heroes in Emmerthal: This is how the table fights against the need!

The Emmerthal issuing point of the Hamelner Tafel remains an important support for people with low incomes. On this holiday, the first entitlements are already at the door, while the voluntary preparations. Gerd Feldmann, one of the co -founders and organizers, emphasizes that the table offers not only food, but also a community in which discussions and support can take place.

The table in Emmerthal has been supplying the needy for 15 years. Each Friday, between 25 and 35 families benefit from the food that remain in the markets, but are still in good condition. It all started in 2010 with only 15 volunteers, and the initiative has gained great confidence in the community since then.

The importance of food rescue

There are 975 plates nationwide, which together support 75,000 people and save an impressive 265,000 tons of food every year, such as
Tafel Germany . Bernhard Wagner, chairman of the Hamelner Tafel, praises the commitment of the volunteers and emphasizes the importance of this work. It is particularly important that a significant proportion of customers are refugees from Ukraine, which underlines the relevance of the board.

The Tafel Hameln collects excess, no longer marketable but edible food, which are then given at a low price of people in emergency situations. This form of support is becoming increasingly important because the number of people with low incomes, including many pensioners, is steadily increasing. They often have to save on nutrition, which in particular affects children and adolescents hard. According to Hamelner Tafel it is crucial to offer these people a way to secure their livelihood.

A call to sustainability

The fight against food waste is a central concern of the boards. In Germany, between 11 and 18 million tons of food end up in the trash. Many of these losses result from misunderstandings on the best -before date, incorrect storage and sorting out food due to optical defects. Therefore, many actors require better legal framework conditions to contain food waste.

The tables not only offer food, but also nutritional education, cooking courses and school events in order to raise awareness of nutrition and sustainability. Supports in the form of time, food or financial means are essential for the further work of the boards in order to help people in need in the region.

Overall, the need for actions such as the Hamelener Tafel, which not only saves food as a joint project, but also assumes social responsibility. The volunteers' wish is clear: "We hope that boards are once superfluous," adds Gerd Feldmann.
