The heat wave in Germany is coming to an end, but the last few days have been anything but pleasant. Temperatures above 35 degrees prevailed, particularly in the southern and eastern regions, as meteorologist Fabian Chow from the German Weather Service (DWD) explains. In the north and northwest, however, the temperatures were more bearable and ranged between 25 and 31 degrees. Anyone longing to cool down can breathe a sigh of relief: From Friday, a cold front will drive away the humid heat and bring more pleasant temperatures. Nevertheless, people in the west to the northeast should prepare for strong thunderstorms that could move across the region at midday.
According to current forecasts, maximum temperatures on Saturday are expected to be between 20 and 32 degrees, depending on the region. For Sunday. However, the risk of thunderstorms remains, especially in the southeast, where severe thunderstorms can arrive again in the afternoon and move towards the Alps. The previous peak values of the heat wave were over 36 degrees on Thursday, with Huy-Pabstorf achieving particularly hot temperatures at 37 degrees and Bad Kissingen at 36.8 degrees. By the way: The highest value of the year so far was recorded on July 2nd, when the thermometer in Andernach climbed to 39.3 degrees.
