Hesse is going green: Vockenrod wind farm is gaining momentum!
A new wind is blowing over Hesse, as construction work for the northern extension of the Vockenrod wind farm in Antrifttal, Vogelsbergkreis, is making good progress. The VSB Group, an active developer of wind and solar energy projects with headquarters in Dresden and part of TotalEnergies since 2025, has decided not only to expand this wind farm, but also to make a valuable contribution to CO2 reduction. According to Windbranche, two new Nordex N149-5.
The wind farm took the first big step towards climate-friendly energy in spring 2024, when the first three turbines with a total output of 17.1 megawatts went into operation. This means that around 17,000 households can be supplied with green electricity, which corresponds to an annual CO2 reduction of around 34,000 tonnes, as the VSB Group highlights.
Current construction progress
The construction of the wind farm is progressing according to plan. Work on the foundations of the new wind turbines has been underway since June 2025. Delivery of the concrete tower segments will begin in mid-July. In August, not only the tower construction will take place, but also the installation of the inner parts of the towers. The main components, such as the nacelle, the steel tower segments and the rotor blades, will be delivered by the end of September 2025. Assembly of these parts is scheduled for October 2025.
In parallel to this work, VSB also ensures careful monitoring during construction. This includes environmental compatibility, consideration of hydrogeological and soil science aspects as well as archaeological support. The locations of the wind turbines are in a hilly landscape, which places additional demands on the construction method, but these are overcome by the well-rehearsed team at VSB.
The influence of renewable energies
The expansion of wind power is not only an economic step, but also a crucial step in the fight against climate change. According to a study by the Federal Environment Agency, around 256 million tons of CO2 emissions could be saved in Germany in 2024 through renewable energies. Wind power contributed almost 106 million tons to this, as can be found on Wind-energie.de.
In view of the global challenges posed by climate change, the strategic expansion of wind energy is not just a local concern, but rather participates in a larger whole. Humans have unbalanced the climate through decades of industry and fossil fuels, but they also have the opportunity to turn things around through environmentally friendly energy sources. The Vockenrod wind farm is a shining example of how you can actively participate in this transition.
In summary, the project impressively shows that the Vockenrod wind farm is not only an innovation engine for the region, but also a sign of a future-oriented energy policy in Germany. Let's let this fresh wind inspire us!
