Fight for children: Unicef warns of growing hardship in crisis areas!
In the middle of the current crises and conflicts that shake the world, the needs of the children cannot be overlooked. Especially regions such as Sudan, Ukraine and the Gaza Strip experience huge challenges that not only endanger daily life, but also the future of countless children. After all, every sixth child grows up in a conflict region, as Unicef Germany shows. The location is worrying: the climate crisis hits the poorest families particularly hard and forces many children to leave their homeland, which is why fast emergency aid is of great importance. UNICEF provides humanitarian aid within a maximum of 72 hours to support affected children with clean drinking water, special food and medical care, as UNICEF Austria reports.
It is a reality that no one can ignore. But despite the enormous emergency, helpfulness in countries like Germany remains unbroken. Last year, a generous sum of over 169 million euros in donations for Unicef was collected. Board member Georg Graf Waldersee emphasizes how important this commitment is for the children concerned and that the commitment of private individuals and companies will become more important in the future. In recent years, the donations have been exceptionally high due to crises, such as the earthquake in Syria and the Ukraine conflict, which brings the entire income to around 169.4 million euros for 2024.
The need grows
The numbers speak a clear language: 213 million children worldwide need humanitarian aid, and Unicef is planning to achieve 109 million of these children by 2025. Unicef's executive director, Catherine Russell, emphasizes the historical high of humanitarian needs among children. The requirements are enormous in 146 countries, with over 57.5 million children born in areas affected by conflict in 2024 alone. This fact forces action, especially with regard to the growing financial challenges. UNICEF has started a call for $ 9.9 billion to cover the growing need until 2025.
The upcoming goals are ambitious: It is planned that 56.9 million children and women receive basic medical care, while 34 million children are examined for malnutrition. Education also plays a central role. 24 million children should be given access to education to secure their future, because what would be a better way to react to the challenges than to invest in the next generation?
unicef's work in detail
Unicef not only remains active in acute crisis situations, but also campaigns for children in need in the long term. The important goals include access to clean drinking water and health facilities, the construction and repair of schools as well as protection against violence and exploitation. In addition, the nutrition of malnourished children in nutritional centers is ensured by special food.
The setbacks that arise from financial cuts should not be underestimated. Important state donors have shortened their budgets for humanitarian aid and development cooperation, making many children who urgently need help. UNICEF nevertheless ensures that the support arrives in the right places and is always looking for new ways to generate donations and mobilize people.
The bottom line is that the work of Unicef was never more important than in these challenging times. With the support of the public, the possibilities of guaranteeing the disadvantaged children a self -determined future and the best possible development. We are all asked to make an active contribution in the future - because every child counts!Details | |
