Fight for Gaza: Israel increasingly offensive - hope for fire break disappears!
Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip reaches a new highlight after a previously aimed at the armed -like agreement has been temporarily failed. General chief of staff Ejal Zamir has ordered the expansion of the soil offensive to other areas. Against this background, Qatar and Egypt strive to resume indirect conversations about a possible break of fire. Hamas has agreed to enter into negotiations immediately in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire and the full withdrawal of the Israeli troops.
At the same time, the Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a ceasefire that would finally end the conflict. Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the army to move further in the Gaza Strip and to achieve all war goals, regardless of negotiations. The hopes for a ceasefire broke after the Hamas provided new conditions, which also complicated the situation.
Humanitarian crisis escalated
The humanitarian location in the Gaza strip worsens dramatically. Israel has temporarily stopped admission to the area of humanitarian aid. After the Hamas refusal, this happened to accept a US plan for the ceasefire agreement. The import stop could have catastrophic consequences for the approximately two million residents of Gazas. Egypt sharply condemned this step and described the violation of humanitarian international law.
The Hamas called this stop an "unscrupulous extortion" and a "coup" against the ceasefire agreement. In the meantime, injuries and dead are repeatedly reported in Israeli attacks. Since the beginning of the ceasefire on January 19, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army justifies its attacks with reports on suspicious people who put explosive devices. Nevertheless, the International Committee of the Red Cross (IKRK) reported 21 dead and 179 injuries and questioned the justification of the Israeli attacks.
relief supplies on the way
In view of the humanitarian emergency situation, aid organizations such as the German Red Cross (DRK) sent humanitarian aid goods to Egypt. These relief goods, including tents, plan for emergency accommodation and medical material, are to be transported into the Gaza Strip via the Egyptian red crescent moon. The need for humanitarian aid is enormous, says DRK general secretary Christian Reuter. Around 33 tons of relief goods have already been delivered and further flights are planned. The civilian population in the Gaza Strip is badly affected: many people have lost their apartments or are on the run. There is a lack of medication, drinking water, food and clothing. The DRK supports the Palestinian red crescent moon, which will distribute the relief supplies on site and demands permanent and safe access for humanitarian helpers.
In the middle of this complex situation, activists, including the well -known environmental activist Greta Thunberg, plan to bring relief supplies to Gaza with a sailing ship in order to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian emergency.
