Maikammerer hikes 600 km for Brunnen in the Congo - a fundraising campaign started!
Tshikapa, Kongo - Ralph Buchenberger from Maikammer has launched an ambitious five -week hiking tour to support the Palatinate fountain drilling project of "Keep Smiling" in Central Africa. The tour leads him over a distance of 611 kilometers from Vienna to the Feistritzer Alm in Carinthia, where he wants to overcome 28,860 meters of altitude and would like to collect 25,000 euros for the association. "Keep Smiling" initiated a fountain drilling project in the Congo in the winter of 2022, which was equipped with 200,000 euros in donations in kind.
So far, three fountains in the Tshikapa region have been drilled, with the long -term goal of creating between eight and ten other fountains. A solar -operated fountain can already be financed with 25,000 euros and is able to supply up to 5,000 people with water. Buchenberger plans to walk the first half of his way across the Alps, in a total of 70 stages and an estimated 1,300 kilometers.hike and preparation
The challenge not only includes physical stress, but also careful preparation. Buchenberger has a satellite transmitter with him in order to continuously communicate his position and to be able to request help in an emergency. Information and photos of the tour are shared every day via the channels of "Keep Smiling" so that interested supporters can follow the trip. The costs for the construction of a fountain include the pump, electronics, solar panels, water tank, work wages and transport, whereby a single well can promote up to 25,000 liters of water per day.
A geophysicist from Nigeria has already carried out geological studies in Tshikapa to identify the suitable locations for the planned fountains. Another alternative approach is the inclusion of knowledge transfer and training on site, which ensures that the communities themselves are able to wait for the facilities.
financial support and challenges
People on site pay for water, which supports the maintenance and safety of the fountains. Buchenberger has planned a total of 35 days for his tour, including a buffer of three days. However, donations are still required for this large project. Supports can be made on the website of "Keep Smiling" and social media.
The challenge that Buchenberger takes is not only a physical expedition, but also a significant step to improve the quality of life in regions that are urgently dependent on reliable water sources. The work in Tshikapa is part of a more comprehensive strategy that takes into account the need for water and that of education and economic independence, as is also required in other projects such as "Water & Food".
A total of around 45,000 euros are needed to finance three other fountains, which underlines the urgency to gain even more support in order to further promote the objective of "Keep Smiling" in the Congo. The structure of a fountain drill and the associated support are also planned steps to ensure water supply sustainably. The necessary devices were ordered as early as the summer of 2021 to enable them.
The project has the potential to start the circulation of "water - education - work" and to open up a better future to the people on site. This initiative is in line with the goals of global water and development projects.
[Rheinpfalz] reports that the trip is both a personal and a common undertaking that brought people together to find a sustainable solution to an acute problem. [Keep Smiling] also emphasizes how important this support is to secure the financial means for a drinking water project in the DR Congo. In addition, [Life Needs Water] offers interesting approaches to the networking of water, education and workplaces in other regions. ”Details | |
