Corona, flu and RSV: Current health situation in MV is significantly more critical!
In the last few weeks, the health situation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has worsened again. According to current data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), acute respiratory diseases, flu-like illnesses and influenza are widespread. The 7-day incidence for Corona is 7.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, which corresponds to 115 new Corona cases in the last week. The age group over 80 is particularly affected, where the incidence is 27.6. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 738,351 laboratory-confirmed corona cases have been registered in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania [news.de].
But it's not just Corona that is currently causing problems. The flu is also evident in the region. In the current calendar week, 11 new influenza cases were reported, with a flu incidence of 0.69 per 100,000 inhabitants. Acute respiratory illnesses (ARE) have decreased slightly in recent weeks, but a specific form, influenza-like illness (ILI), remains widespread. The ILI incidence was stable at 800 per 100,000 inhabitants in the 43rd calendar week.
Challenges posed by RSV and influenza
However, there is positive news regarding respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV): no new RSV cases were reported in the 44th calendar week. The current RSV incidence is therefore 0 per 100,000 inhabitants. The highest RSV incidence this year was recorded at 16.58 per 100,000 inhabitants in the tenth calendar week, when 270 new cases occurred. This suggests that the situation may have stabilized, which should be a relief, especially for parents of young children.
A deeper analysis of respiratory diseases shows that the dominance of influenza viruses A and B in ARE events in recent months is significant. The virus A(H1N1)pdm09 was particularly common. While the total number of acute respiratory diseases continued to fall in Germany, the number of doctor visits among children increased. Experts report a high consultation incidence, with around 1.5 million visits to the doctor for acute respiratory diseases.
Shared responsibility
Current developments require joint action. In these times, the exchange between the population and the responsible authorities is crucial. The Corona Police Department has taken the initiative to engage the community in addressing these challenges. People are invited to contact the Community Outreach Team to share thoughts and experiences. This participation can be crucial to improving the situation in the region, as the Corona Police Department emphasizes.
Overall, the situation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is tense, but with an attitude of solidarity and good exchange we can navigate through these health challenges together.
