Happiness in the harvest in MV: Farmers celebrate the ideal corn harvest in 2025!
With the end of the 2025 harvest year in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, farmers are reporting positive reports about their corn harvest. Farmer Bernd Klänhammer from Penkun is particularly satisfied: “The last ear of corn was harvested today and the quality is top!” His 35 hectares were expected to produce about 10 decitons of corn per hectare, bringing him and many other farmers good business. In total, an area of around 140,000 hectares was cultivated with corn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
In the first half of the year in particular, the agricultural landscape was characterized by an exceptionally dry phase from mid-February to mid-May. But from June onwards, the much-needed rain came, which favored corn development. The farmers' association also expressed satisfaction with the harvest, which was positive despite the adverse weather conditions. Silage maize has already been harvested, with yields of up to 400 decitons per hectare, which are similar to last year.
Harvesting and feeding
Klänhammer was able to complete the grain corn harvest with a residual moisture content of 27.2 percent. What's interesting is that he feeds almost all of the corn to his own cattle and pigs. In this way, he not only ensures his own animal nutrition, but also contributes to the quality of his products.
While the corn harvest was successfully completed, the beet harvest is still pending. These are also of great importance as the sugar factory processes more than 14,000 tons of beets every day. “We are currently still busy with the harvest; the beets still have to leave the field before we can completely complete the 2025 harvest year,” Klänhammer continues.
The Importance of the Harvest
The farmers' positive interim assessment clearly shows that the sun and drought enabled the harvest to be completed early. This shows how important a successful harvest is for regional agriculture and domestic supplies. Farmers can look to the future with optimism as the positive results strengthen the economic foundation of their businesses.
