On June 21, 2025 the time has come: the 15th Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Day will officially open in Greifswald. At 12:00 p.m. the Prime Minister will kick off the festival, which will be celebrated from June 20th to 22nd. Preparations for this are in full swing, and you can look forward to a concentrated load of experiences that will transform the city into a true festival. This year's motto “Tradition, Innovation and Diversity” is all about the 775th anniversary of Greifswald and the 35th anniversary of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The city center will be divided into twelve experience areas, and the NDR Vorpommernstudio will offer a varied program from 11 a.m., ranging from studio tours to technology demonstrations to souvenir photos with Ernie and Bert as well as KIKA characters, such as NDR reported.
A feast for all senses
The stage program promises absolute highlights. The festival starts on Saturday with a concert by the Western Pomerania State Police Orchestra. On Saturday evening, fans can party hard at the festival party with NDR 1 and a performance by Joris. On Sunday we continue with an opening concert, followed by performances by popular KIKA characters, which will certainly delight not only the little ones. The entire program is designed to be enjoyable for all ages and special attention has been paid to accessibility. Among other things, low barriers are removed, and there are special parking spaces and access options for people with disabilities, such as NDR highlights.
Another highlight is the ringing of bells in all churches, which marks the start of the festival and creates the right atmosphere. The multitude of concerts, sports tournaments and shows give the festival a colorful setting that invites you to celebrate and showcases the diversity of the region.
Greifswald: A city with history
The year 2025 is not just special for MV Day; it is also an opportunity to celebrate 775 years of Greifswald's history. The city, which arose in the shadow of the famous Hanseatic cities of Stralsund and Stettin, was mentioned in a document in 1248 and received Lübeck city charter in 1250.
