Greifswald's fire department celebrates 150 years: Big celebration with many highlights!

The fire department of the Hanseatic city of Greifswald has set itself the goal of a very special anniversary - it is celebrating its 150th anniversary and cordially invites all citizens to take part. On a sunny Saturday, July 5, 2025, there will be an open day at Wolgaster Straße 63 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Here, those interested can experience first hand what the fire department has to offer.

The festival starts at 9:30 a.m. with a presentation of emergency vehicles on the market square. At 10 a.m. two columns of vehicles set off on a rally and return at 10:30 a.m. The fire department, always ready to help, has come up with an exciting program for the day. The technology show begins at 11 a.m., with both the volunteer and professional fire departments presenting their vehicles.

A look behind the scenes

For all those who have always wanted to know what it's like behind the scenes of the fire department, guided tours of the fire station and the equipment house are offered, starting at 11.30 a.m. Visitors can look forward to tours of workshops, changing rooms, relaxation rooms and the sports room. The youth fire brigade will also demonstrate a firefighting attack at 1 p.m., which will certainly fascinate many.

But that's not all! At 2:30 p.m. a joint exercise between professional and volunteer fire departments will be simulated, in which people will be rescued using the turntable ladder. For particularly active and interested visitors, there is even the opportunity to try out a “Fire Trainer” yourself and put out fires or practice target shooting with a bucket sprayer.

Fun and information for the whole family

Families with children are also very welcome, as two bouncy castles await the little ones in the courtyard. At an information stand, those interested can find out about the tasks and opportunities to join the fire department. Anyone interested in emergency preparedness and disaster protection will also find a wealth of information there.

Of course, your physical well-being is also taken care of, but patience is required: there are no parking spaces available on the fire station. Therefore, visitors are asked to use public transport or to look around in the surrounding parking spaces.
