Young Union demands action: CDU must now reposition itself!

The Junge Union (JU) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is increasingly dissatisfied with internal communication and the unity within the CDU. JU boss Jenny Gundlach speaks out and calls for a clear change of course: “We have to switch to election campaign mode and not let internal blockers slow us down,” she explains in a recent statement. “The future of our state is important to us and it is high time we set the course for it,” she added.

The JU's dissatisfaction becomes clear when you look at the CDU's poll numbers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which are currently only 13 percent. Gundlach sees this as a snapshot that does not reflect the actual political pulse. However, general secretary Katy Hoffmeister counters the concerns and emphasizes that the party is united and looking forward to the upcoming election campaign. "We feel ready to replace the left-wing government. Our course is that of the center, and we want to move the country forward with this," said Hoffmeister.

Study trip to Spain

Another aspect of JU's work is the interest in international exchange and education. Two weeks ago the Konrad Adenauer Foundation went on a study trip to Spain. There, JU members were able to talk to important personalities such as Idan Causa from the youth organization NNGG Madrid and the Vice President of the Spanish Parliament, Jose Antonio Bermudez de Castro Fernandez. If you look at the cultural highlights of the trip, the visit to the Del Prado Museum and the visit to the Monasterio Real Sitio de El Escorial stand out.

The economic situation in Spain and relations with Germany were discussed in the Chamber of Foreign Trade. The exchange about religion in the German Protestant community in Madrid and participation in the Spanish national day celebrations also illustrate the JU's efforts to promote European integration.

Members and goals of the Junge Union

The Junge Union was founded between January 17th and 21st, 1947 in Königstein im Taunus and has since established itself as an important voice in politics. With over 91,000 members, around 30 percent of whom are women, it represents the interests of the young generation in the structures of the CDU. The JU offers young people the opportunity to actively participate in political decisions and to spread the values of Christian democracy and a social market economy.

Its political goals are clearly defined: from the creation of new jobs and training positions to a commitment to European unification, the JU has covered a wide range of topics. The discussion about important future topics will also be further intensified in the upcoming autumn academy and during the application consultation for the MV Day 2025.

With Kenny Hro and Karo Herrmann, the JU has nominated its candidates for the upcoming state elections and would like to score points in the elections with new, forward-looking ideas. The JU-MV is optimistic and ready to tackle the challenges of the time.
