Seenplatte district plans 18 million euros for sports projects!

The Mecklenburg Lake District has big plans and would like to apply for around 18 million euros from the federal government's infrastructure program in the coming months. The prepared project list includes important projects that are intended to enormously improve the sports and leisure activities in the region. The projects listed include a beach hall in the Neubrandenburg Cultural Park, a sports facility at the vocational school in Neustrelitz and an artificial turf pitch in Siedenbollentin. These investments aim to offer citizens and sports clubs new opportunities. The district hopes that all applications can be submitted in Berlin by mid-January 2026 so that the projects can be put into action quickly.

But these are not the only wishes expressed by various cities. For example, the city of Demmin is considering the design of the outdoor facilities of the Jahn gymnasium. The Stavenhagen office also needs renovations to sports halls in Rosenow and Stavenhagen as well as the construction of a skate park. The city of Malchin also has plans to renovate the sports hall in Faulenrost, although this project is currently not included in the funding program because there is no school there. As a further idea, the city of Waren is planning a streetball facility with a cost of around 400,000 euros.

Funding opportunities in the sports sector

The application for funding area I, specifically for sports facilities, must be submitted electronically by March 31st each year Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Development Institute informed. In addition, applications for construction projects by municipal and non-profit organizations are regulated by a project call from the responsible ministry. Interested parties must carefully attach all construction-related documents according to a checklist.

The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Sports Association also supports sports clubs that would like to submit applications for funding. The aim is to soon make applications possible digitally via the SportVereinsPortal. However, these currently still have to be submitted in the traditional way by post or scanned email, which is still a challenge for some users.

In order to advance sports infrastructure and make optimal use of the associated financial resources, it is of great importance for municipalities to adhere to the planned deadlines and guidelines. Time is of the essence because there is great enthusiasm for new sports offerings in the region and many citizens are excited about the progress that will be made in the near future.
