State Zoo Day 2025: Experience animals up close in the Wismar Zoo!

Preparations for this year's State Zoo Day are in full swing. On August 15, 2025, Wismar Zoo will be the venue for this colorful event, which is a wonderful opportunity not only for families but also for animal lovers to discover the animal world. As the Government MV reports, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig will officially open the event. You and Agriculture Minister Dr. Till Backhaus are already full of anticipation as they have visited numerous animal parks in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the past few weeks.

The start of the State Zoo Day was the 14th State Zoo Day at Rostock Zoo on July 26th, also opened by Schwesig and Backhaus. During this event, all children up to 14 years of age had free entry, making the event a real family celebration. There was also great joy at the zoo association's level of knowledge, which drew attention to the topic of big cats. All kinds of exciting information about fur types and diets were conveyed, such as Rostock Zoo Association reported.

A wide range of options for little animal lovers

But it's not just in Rostock that things are animal-friendly. Bees are on the program at Neustrelitz Zoo, while Marlow Bird Park offers special children's tours - a great chance to learn something about flora and fauna. The State Zoo Day has set itself the goal of promoting awareness of species protection and biodiversity and thus shows how important such events are for the preservation of our nature.

These events are part of originally planned activities that were somewhat slowed down by the pandemic. In Germany, the range of zoos and animal parks extends across all federal states and offers a diverse experience for young and old. Particularly noteworthy is the Rostock Zoo, which is one of the largest facilities in Germany with over 6,500 animals and 500 species. The zoo also has a lot to offer when it comes to leisure fun, such as: Family travel fever has compiled.

The highlights at a glance
