Claudia Nielsen is the new boss of the rural women in MV!

Last weekend, a new board of directors for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Women's Association was elected at a celebratory meeting in Güstrow. Claudia Nielsen, who has been actively involved in supporting rural women in recent years, is succeeding Heike Müller, who did not run again after 12 years in office.

Nielsen was elected as the new chairwoman with great applause, while Müller was also given a fitting farewell. The new board brings a breath of fresh air and consists of the following members:

position name
Chairman Claudia Nielsen
1st deputy chairwoman Anna Wilde
2nd deputy chairwoman Susan Menzel
Member Margaret Redmer
Member Petra Zeitzen
Member Dr. Melanie Rühmling

Commitment and outlook

Claudia Nielsen has been committed to rural women at regional, state and federal levels for many years and in her inaugural speech she emphasized the essential role of rural women for vibrant villages. In particular, she looked ahead to 2026, designated by the UN as the Year of Women in Agriculture. This initiative highlights the relevance of women in agriculture and shows that their voices must be heard.

In his speech, Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus praised Heike Müller's extensive commitment. “She was able to build bridges between politics, civil society and rural women,” said Backhaus. The rural women's association currently has around 1,000 members who actively shape village life and preserve regional traditions.

New challenges for the board

The election took place in the context of a trusting but also critical collaboration with the office in Neubrandenburg. There was dissatisfaction among members, which led to the calling of an extraordinary delegates' conference. The outgoing board stated that a certain level of mistrust led to the “independence of the office”. This shows that communication within the association will become even more important in the future in order to promote the joy of rural life and the community of rural women.

A special honor is also given to women who have made a special contribution to German rural women's work. This also includes Dörte Nowack, who quickly took over her father's business despite her original plans to work in horticulture.

The new board has accepted the challenge of promoting more transparency and trust within the association in order to further strengthen the community of rural women and tackle the upcoming tasks together.
