Gas leak in Parchim: Road closed until the weekend – diversions necessary!
Parchim is preparing for a few challenging weeks. As the city of Parchim reports, it is assumed that the construction work will be completed at the weekend after a gas leak in the street “Am Molkteplatz”. On Tuesday, the road was inspected for the leak, which caused a construction company to open part of the roadway and sidewalk. City utility technicians were able to quickly find and repair the damaged gas pipe. However, the road and sidewalk must now be restored, which will take until the weekend as the paving stones have to be laid in concrete and this has to harden.
The lane in the direction of Kulturmühle remains closed for the time being. Road users must expect changes as traffic will be redirected towards “Alte Mauerstrasse,” “Kreuztor,” “Flörkestrasse,” and “Cordesiusstrasse.” Even after this work has been completed, the situation in Parchim is tense, because a comprehensive construction site on St.-Marien-Straße will begin next Monday, November 4th.
News from St.-Marien-Straße
The construction site on St.-Marien-Straße will fundamentally renovate the connection between Langen Straße and Auf dem Broock. Not only will supply and disposal lines be laid, but a new wastewater and rainwater canal with house connections will also be created. The Parchim public utility company has announced that it will create new electrical and gas connections and provide the road with a new asphalt surface that is 3.80 meters wide.
In addition, red clinker pavements with a width of 1.30 to 1.50 meters will be laid out on both sides of the street. For drivers, this means that St.-Marien-Straße will be completely closed to car traffic. Both full and partial closures are expected in the connecting areas to Lange Straße and Auf dem Brook.
Invitation to patience
The construction work on St.-Marien-Straße is scheduled to last until July 2025. Despite the restrictions, walking accessibility is guaranteed, but temporary closures may occur. The neighboring residents will be informed in good time by the construction company in order to keep the inconvenience as low as possible. A former Wobau parking lot is also available as an alternative area for residents.
The city of Parchim asks all citizens to understand the restrictions during the construction work and hopes that the work will be carried out smoothly in order to achieve important infrastructural progress.
