New educational dream in Parchim: Goethe School opens for 400 students!
There is reason to be happy in Parchim: the new Goethe Regional School opened on July 4, 2025! This impressive construction project, the largest in the city's history, shows not only a commitment to better educational infrastructure, but also a willingness to innovate. The old location was simply no longer up to date and did not offer enough space for the growing number of students. For this reason, the new building that was now built on Gneisenaustraße was urgently needed. It can accommodate up to 400 students and was designed with a clear focus on inclusion.
The creative minds behind this project ensured that the new school building is barrier-free and has, among other things, an elevator. The aim is to offer all children, including those with physical, visual and hearing impairments, the best possible school education. The total costs for the new building amount to almost 27 million euros, with 14 million euros coming from subsidies and the rest being financed by the district town, reports NDR.
A place for learning and meeting
Another important aspect of the new school building is the development of the environment around the school. In addition to the establishment of the new Goethe Regional School, an adjacent daycare center was opened, which bears the name “Forschergeist” and has already been ceremoniously inaugurated. This facility provides a first view of the school building and will become the central point for families in Parchim as part of the new KiBiZ educational campus. Here, children from very young to teenagers experience shared learning and play opportunities and also have direct access to special educational offerings.
A very special highlight of the new Goethe Regional School will be the center in the atrium, which will function as a meeting point and event space. This atrium will be made bright and inviting by installing skylights and will become the school's central contact point once the work is completed. The scaffolding and cranes that currently characterize the site will soon give way to modern classrooms and spacious rooms.
An inclusive educational model
The new school also takes into account an important social development: the inclusion of children. In Germany, the road to implementing inclusive educational offerings is still a long one, as the current situation shows. The exclusion rate was recently 4.2 percent, with clear differences between the federal states. Nevertheless, the new construction project shows that Parchim is on the right track and that the schools here are actively working to improve the educational landscape in order to meet the requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Loud Bertelsmann Foundation The decline in the exclusion rate is a positive sign, even if the unity of a common school system in Germany has not yet been achieved.
The development of the Goethe Regional School is not only a structural achievement, but also a strong signal for an inclusive educational future that offers young people in Parchim a real opportunity. This new school will create an environment that is attractive for both students and teachers and in which learning can take place with joy and curiosity.
