4.3 million euros for Demminer Land: New projects in planning!

Exciting developments are coming up in the beautiful Demminer Land region: a total of 4.3 million euros are available here by 2027 to advance rural development. The “Demminer Land” action group has recently worked intensively on projects that could be supported by EU funds. Like that NDR reports, ten different projects are currently being presented to the group's 29 members.

But what exactly is the aim? The range of proposals ranges from the construction of a new jetty in the harbor of Kummerow to the establishment of additional bike rental and charging stations by a Malchin company to the creation of a culture and dance space in Gültz. These initiatives are not only creative, but also a real benefit for the region and its residents.

Funding opportunities for communities

As already mentioned, municipalities, private individuals and associations can apply for EU funds from the LEADER program. This is a crucial step to strengthen rural regions and create long-term prospects. The BMEL highlights how important these instruments are for the development of rural areas. The LEADER program in particular promotes innovative approaches that not only benefit local actors, but also strengthen the region's identity.

The concept is based on the idea that local actors work together in action groups to develop regionally specific development concepts. The focus here is on the strengths and weaknesses of the region so that suitable projects can be selected. The action group aims to harmonize civic engagement with state tasks, which has already been successfully implemented in numerous other EU member states.

The LEADER approach in numbers

There are currently 372 LEADER regions in Germany, while there are around 2,700 across Europe DVS informed. This region, around which everything revolves, is characterized by a rural character and clearly defined borders. At the beginning of each funding period, a local development strategy (LES) is created that actively involves the population and defines the areas of action and goals of the region.

This strategy forms the basis for the selection of funded projects. The LEADER process follows a bottom-up approach, where local people have their say and help determine which projects should be funded.

Overall, it shows that rural areas in Germany and especially in Demminer Land have a lot of potential. A decision will be made in November 2025 as to which projects will be funded. The anticipation of joint development is palpable, and the courses taken through these initiatives could bring about positive changes in the long term.
