Construction site chaos in MV: Commuters have to be more patient!

Autumn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania not only means colorful leaves, but also challenges for drivers. The beginning of the wet season brings with it severe traffic delays, mainly caused by numerous construction sites. How NDR reports, commuters in cities like Schwerin, Neubrandenburg and Rostock are particularly affected because waiting times should not be underestimated.

In Schwerin, drivers are sometimes stuck in traffic jams for several kilometers. The large construction sites there, for example on Ludwigsluster Chaussee and Obotritenring, last for a long time and cause bumpy rush hour traffic. The head of the building department, Bernd Nottebaum (CDU), pointed out planning errors and poor coordination, but also explained that the city is not responsible for construction sites on federal roads - that falls within the remit of the state road construction authority.

Important construction sites at a glance

But the traffic chaos is not only noticeable in Schwerin. There are significant delays in Rostock, especially on the Südring and the B105, which are particularly busy in the morning and afternoon. In Neubrandenburg, an important district road is also completely closed for around a week. On the coast, such as on Rügen and in the direction of Darß, drivers also have to expect long traffic jams. However, these construction sites are just the tip of the iceberg, as more are already being planned for the coming months.

Construction sites on the A20 motorway and on three important roads will also be affected from Monday morning. Street MV has published a comprehensive list of construction sites that contains the latest information on the measures and their impact on traffic.

Additional tips for drivers

Given the situation, transport authorities recommend allowing sufficient time for the journey and considering alternative routes. Those who can use public transport may be better off, as the railway renovation between Hamburg and Berlin means that more commuters have to switch to cars, which further increases traffic. In addition, the Kabutzenhof ferry is currently out of service, which further aggravates the situation.

Another highlight among the construction sites is the structure on the bridge over the Löcknitz near Dömitz, which is closed to traffic from Saturday evening to Sunday morning. Here too, a rerouting might be necessary. In the coming months you can expect more construction sites, delays and traffic jams. It remains to be hoped that once the work is completed, traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can flow smoothly again.

However, the city and the country's highway department have announced that they will work to improve arrangements to avoid such chaotic traffic situations in the future. Until then, drivers have no choice but to be patient and drive off on time.
