Cölpin is pitching in: Hummelnest daycare center is being renovated for two million euros!
A major step towards improving child care is being taken in the educational district of the municipality of Cölpin. How NDR reported, the local council decided on Thursday evening to renovate the Hummelnest daycare center on their own. This measure was necessary because the facility had to be closed at the end of the year due to significant deficiencies, particularly in the area of fire protection.
The estimated renovation costs are around two million euros. Head of Social Affairs Michael Löffler explained that the renovation does not stand in the way of further opening the daycare center, which gives parents hope that operations can be resumed as quickly as possible. Mayor Joachim Jünger was critical of the lack of funding from the federal, state and district levels. “This urgently needs to be improved,” says Jünger.
The Hummelnest daycare center in detail
The daycare center was built in 1983 and currently looks after 76 children who need a safe and appealing learning environment. But like them too DGUV emphasizes, it is crucial that daycare centers provide a safe environment. This includes safe traffic routes, ergonomic furniture and child-friendly outdoor facilities that promote children's well-being.
Such an environment has positive effects on their performance. In order to do justice to this, it is necessary to regularly check the playground equipment according to the latest standards. When older devices are replaced, they must comply with current safety standards as set out in the DIN standards.
Legal basis for security
The need for renovations in daycare centers is underlined by the legal requirements set out in the regulations on safety design. The Occupational Safety and Health Act regulates the basic protective obligations and ensures that risks to the health of children and employees are avoided. The Website Safe Daycare mentions, among other things, DGUV regulation 82, which sets specific protection goals for daycare centers.
These regulations not only help to avoid accidents and health hazards, but must also be observed when making adjustments or repairs to the play equipment and the general structural conditions. A safely designed room is not only a legal requirement, but also a cornerstone for the successful learning and playing of our youngest children.
With its initiative, the municipality of Cölpin shows that a good hand in renovating such a facility is not only necessary, but also possible - and there is something important for the future of our children. Progress on this matter is being closely monitored and it is hoped that initial construction work can begin soon.
