Fire brigade Brunn wants to react faster in emergencies: First aid now!
In the emergency medical sector, there is a clear need for action in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which the Brunn volunteer fire brigade has also recognized. Daniel Rautenberg, the military leader of the Brunner fire brigade, has been committed to the fact that the fire brigade is alerted to resuscitation cases for some time. "We can help faster in our community than the emergency services," explains Rautenberg. So far, however, this wish has remained unfulfilled, although in the past there have already been several resuscitation cases in which the fire brigade was not on hand in time, while the emergency services reached its limits.
To support such emergencies, the prerequisites for voluntary fire departments as "first responders" in the Mecklenburg Lake District district are already determined. "First Response" are special first aiders with extensive training, which are alerted at the same time as the emergency services when it comes to it. In the case of long arrival times of the emergency services, this could save valuable minutes.
Financial and logistical challenges
A similar project was launched by the Gadebusch fire brigade in 2016. There, a group of 15 comrades began an entire series of training in cooperation with the German Red Cross, which prepares for the special challenge as a "first responder". The meetings for training take place regularly and include both theoretical and practical aspects of first aid, which are guided by experienced trainers. The equipment, including a defibrillator, is housed in a former emergency doctor and enables the use even in remote areas where the emergency services hesitates.
