Young firefighters fight for trophies: Lake District in competition!
Last Saturday, June 20, 2025, the youth fire brigade of the Mecklenburg Lake District showed what they were made of on the sports field of the Fire Technical Center (FTZ) in Neuendorf. The district finals for the youth fire brigades were coming up, and eleven teams fought for the coveted challenge cup. The Altentreptow youth fire department emerged as the winner, followed by Wildberg and Golchen, who will now represent the Lake District at the upcoming state competitions in Ticino. This reports Strelitzius.
The competitions included a fire-fighting attack carried out using a water extraction point in “open water” and a 400-meter-long obstacle course. Here, the tasks required the young firefighters not only skill, but also teamwork. “The extinguishing attack must be completed within a time limit of seven minutes,” explains Dominik Tramp, the district youth fire chief, who made his last official appearance that day. A minute's silence was observed to commemorate the late Bernd Niemczewsky.
Challenges and winners
The firefighting attack includes coupling suction hoses, overcoming obstacles and tying fire brigade knots. The subsequent 400-meter obstacle course included tasks such as unrolling tubes and putting on personal equipment. These challenges made the day a real highlight for the participants, while the spectators cheered along.
Another exciting event was the children's fire brigade. Seven groups competed and completed their tasks with flying colors. First place went to the fire department from Werder/Kölln, followed by Gielow and Waren (Müritz). For example, these young firefighters had to pull out fire hoses and operate bucket sprayers, which required a lot of skill.
Variety and support
The district youth forum's station rally provided further entertainment between the competitions, with Schwichtenberg emerging as the winner. The day was supported by numerous political representatives, the state youth fire brigade warden and many other guests. A special thank you goes to the district youth forum and the district fire brigade association as well as to the DRK Neubrandenburg care train, which provided the food. The bet between the district military leader and the district council president also brought additional excitement, which ensured that the children and young people were able to secure the trophies for the next district competition.
The youth fire brigade competitions are not only a sporting event, but also an important opportunity to support young fire brigades and prepare them for the challenges they will face in the future. Similar competitions such as the national competition of the German youth fire brigade are on the agenda, which also make the youth fire brigades known nationwide. Jugendfeuerwehr.de explains that these competitions also count as qualification for the international competition, which offers the teams the opportunity to compete on an even larger stage.
