Climate protection in Mecklenburg: District plants apple quince for the future!

A new green for Neuendorf: On Monday, August 11th, District Administrator Heiko Kärger (CDU) and his deputy Thomas Müller (CDU) planted an apple quince in front of the fire department headquarters (FTZ) in Neuendorf. This campaign is part of the nationwide “Tree Planting Challenge”, which has been motivating many people in Germany to become active in climate protection for months. The challenge is not just about planting a tree, but also about nominating new participants. The Mecklenburg Lake District has now called on the Vorpommern-Rügen district to also plant a tree, with one week left to take up the challenge reports the Tagesschau.

During the planting, Heiko Kärger emphasized the significant contribution of this initiative to climate protection and expressed the hope that this campaign would be spread across the board. His deputy, Thomas Müller, sees the tree planting as an “investment in the future”. The newly planted apple quince complements the existing fruit trees at this location, and the team from the fire department technical center will take care of the care of the young tree said the Nordkurier.

A symbol for nature

The nationwide challenge has now mobilized numerous actors from municipalities, clubs and companies. Each participant who plants a tree nominates at least one other person to take on the challenge within a maximum of seven days. As an example, the Osnabrück district recently planted a sweet chestnut and nominated the Mecklenburg Lake District, which is now giving back informs the Tagesschau.

In the course of these activities, the concept of urban trees is becoming increasingly important. Project ideas such as “Biodiversity-promoting climate measures in urban areas”, known as BiodivStadtbaum, aim to capture the legal and planning basis for tree planting and their protection. However, protecting urban trees is under pressure from dense population and the challenges of climate change. It is therefore important not only to plant new trees, but also to maintain existing ones reports the BfN.

Together for climate protection

The tree planting challenge is not only a sign of individual commitment, but also a call to community. Nature needs active citizens who care about their surroundings. Campaigns like those by District Administrators Kärger and Müller not only make a small contribution to climate protection, but also show that every tree counts and that a lot can be achieved together.
