A current Survey of the Nordkurier The quality of life now gives you the opportunity to raise your voice. The participation period ends on Sunday, June 22nd, and around 3,500 participants from the district have shared their experiences.
The survey emphasizes both positive and negative aspects of life in the region. Above all, the high quality of life, cleanliness, security and leisure activities are estimated by the respondents. However, this also includes below -average ratings in areas such as health care, public transport and gastronomic offer. Participants can describe their impressions anonymously and even notify special problems, which shows that the opinion of the citizens: inside is required.

The survey is not only an interesting snapshot, but also in the context of a more comprehensive study on quality of life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It was found in 2023 that 49% of the population assesses their quality of life as high in a nationwide comparison. The natural conditions and the local recreational opportunities enjoy great satisfaction: 82% of those surveyed are (very) satisfied with them. The regions of Fischland-Darß-Zingst, the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast and the island of Usedom are very popular.
Not everything is rosy. Despite the general prosperity, 47% of the residents feel: in a way burdened by tourism. This shows that the balancing act between a flourishing tourism industry and the needs of the locals are far from being optimally set. After all, 75% would like to be included in decisions about tourist developments and 59% consider information about tourist decisions to be important.

The associated Study On the tourism acceptance shows that the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tourism association can record a positive development in the perception of the quality of life. A tourism acceptance balance of +44 points for 2024 speaks a clear language. This shows that people are proud of their region, but want more efforts to bring tourism into harmony with the needs of the population.
The region has remained attractive with a high number of satisfied and constant growth in the area of local recreation. But here too there is room for improvement: For example, there are improvements in local public transport 78% of the respondents. Initiatives such as "Be Guest on your island" also ensure that local population can use special offers for their region.The results of this survey and studies clarify that the voices of the citizens must be heard in order to further increase the quality of life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Because one thing is certain: a good hand for balanced tourism is the key to the future of the region.
