This situation creates some difficulties, as the transition period for the offices that are not technically equipped ended on July 31, 2025. Some administrations, such as the Demmin-Land office, have already extended their opening hours to give applicants more time to apply.
The requirements for biometric passport photos

These are important because a passport photo must meet strict requirements in order to be recognized as valid. Presence offices will be made easier, and it is promised that the new rules will also provide better protection against misuse and counterfeiting. This step is particularly important in times when criminals are increasingly working with data from identity cards. Nevertheless, there is already criticism of the machines: software errors and difficulties in taking photos of children are causing dissatisfaction among citizens.
