SC Neubrandenburg cheers: Michal Fatyga becomes a German champion in the sprint!

Bochum, Deutschland - A prominent appearance for athletics from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Michal Fatyga from SC Neubrandenburg has secured the title of German champion of the under 20-year-old in the 400-meter run. The championship, which took place in Bochum at the weekend, was a complete success for Fatyga. With a time of 47.23 seconds, he not only ran to the gold medal, but also improved his personal best. He thus fulfilled the standard for the U20 European Championships in Finland in August, which makes him and his team particularly proud. NDR reports on the exciting competition and Fatyga’s outstanding performance.

But Fatyga was not the only guarantee of success from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. John-Christian Schochardt also shone: he won silver in the shot put of the U18 and set up a personal best. In the under 20-year-old, Emily Scherff and Malte Tiltmann each won bronze in the shot put. Overall, the state training community proudly carries seven medals of it, a remarkable success on which the athletes can continue to build up until Sunday.

start to the indoor season

As Fatyga explained in an interview, he prepared intensively for the upcoming competitions in the indoor season. On Saturday he was on the starting line at the U18 and adults over 200 meters at the U18 Hallenland championships. This was another step towards the coveted European Championship, which will be held in Tampere, Finland in August. Fatyga, which was fifth at the U18 European Championship in Banska Bystrica last year, has already achieved first successes, including a personal best of 47.43 seconds in the semi-finals. He started the indoor season with optimism after he had to overcome some hurdles in health matters in 2024, in particular with a hardened calf and an infection, as the Nordkurier knows.

Together with Fatyga, many other athletes are also strong in the race. Johanna Martin and Pauline Richter from the 1st LAV Rostock show an excellent form at the distances of 60 and 400 meters in the indoor competitions. Martin was the best 400-meter runner in the U20 last year and will surely be a serious competitor. Hilke Thamke, the heptathlon, also strives for good results in the long jump and over 60 meters hurdles.
