Dispute at the campsite in Mirow: Husband hits the hospital with a branch!
An unfortunate incident occurred at a campsite in Mirow, located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, which brought the police to the scene late in the evening of July 17, 2025. During an argument between a husband and his wife, both of whom are in their 50s, the situation escalated and led to a scuffle, during which a 50-year-old helper joined in. The husband was hit on the head with a branch, requiring immediate medical treatment. He had to be taken to the clinic, as NDR reports.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. and resulted in a violent altercation that left both the husband and the helper affected. While the husband suffered serious injuries, the helper escaped with minor injuries. Due to the seriousness of the incidents, the police have filed charges of grievous bodily harm and simple assault, as the press portal also reported. Further investigations to clarify the facts in detail are already being planned.
Dynamics of domestic violence
This incident is not an isolated case, considering the current figures on domestic violence. According to Zurich, the police in the canton of Zurich respond to domestic violence or family disputes on average 21 times per day. What is worrying is that three quarters of the victims are women and most of the accused are men. This imbalance shows how important it is to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence and to take preventive action.
Looking at the Istanbul Convention, which is an international agreement to combat domestic violence and violence against women, it becomes clear that combating these problems is also on the political agenda in Germany and Austria. For example, the government council of the canton of Zurich has confirmed the fight against domestic violence in its strategy. Nevertheless, a large proportion of such cases remain undetected in the “dark field” and do not appear in statistics, which further increases the challenge.
The events at the Mirow campsite are not only an alarming example of violent conflicts in private settings, but also illustrate the need for efforts across society to take targeted action against domestic violence and to help those affected.
