Storm chaos around the Müritz: trees fall, roads blocked!

In the Müritz region, more precisely in the Mecklenburg Lake District, a violent storm is ensuring clear conditions - and not in a positive sense. It was only on Monday afternoon at 5 p.m. that a short but intense thunderstorm broke out, accompanied by lightning and thunder, which required the fire brigade and police to be deployed. Loud NDR The Röbel, Waren and Neustrelitz districts were particularly active to scan the streets for fallen trees.

Trees that were no longer stable sometimes had catastrophic effects. The situation is particularly dramatic on the B 108 between Moltzow and Ziddorf, where a tree fell on the road. This not only caused property damage estimated at €5,000, but also damaged a car and a telephone line. Luckily there were no injuries like that Northern Courier reported.

Fire department in constant operation

The Waren fire department had its hands full and had to be deployed eleven times to repair the damage. The men and women were on duty until midnight after a second storm front hit the region again around 8 p.m. Particularly affected were streets where the felled trees were repeatedly lying, while a large tree at the public pool was uprooted. Helpers from the Plasten fire department even needed support from the Waren fire department to remove a tree that had fallen on a house.

But that wasn't all. Things also became critical at the Cameroon campsite when a tree threatened to fall. Fortunately, everyone was able to get to safety in time. In Silz, a tree fell on a power line, causing a one-hour power outage, and there was a truck accident on the A19 when a gust of wind made it difficult for the driver to control. But here too, the driver was uninjured, while the highway had to remain closed for a long time.

Weather conditions in focus

These events fall into the category of extreme weather conditions that national weather services document. The German Weather Service, as on their website dwd.de to read, collects data about storms and other extraordinary weather events in order to evaluate them chronologically and according to climate elements. Such storms can have a significant impact on infrastructure and the safety of citizens.

The effects of today's weather phenomenon are more than just a brief annoyance, but rather show in a striking way how vulnerable even well-known regions like those around the Müritz can be to the whims of nature. The ongoing operations of the fire brigade clearly illustrate this.
