The 2025 State Youth Sailing Championship in Rerik brought together 268 young talents from 47 clubs in optimal conditions.
Neubrandenburg's young sailors shine at the state youth championship!
The state youth sailing championship recently took place in the Baltic Sea resort of Rerik, for the third time in a row. Organized by Alt Gaarz Sailing Club, the event enjoyed brilliant weather and a high number of participants. A total of 268 young sailors from 47 clubs took part, including 26 from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The sailing took place on the Salzhaff in two different courses, divided into boat classes. Among the 225 boats used were categories such as 29er, 420er, ILCA 4 and 6, Cadet and the Optimists A and B. Even though the wind died down a bit on the second day of the competition, all classes were still able to finish their races successfully.
Championship results
The sailors from Neubrandenburg, represented by Emma Grumbach (ILCA 4), Gero Heidenreich (ILCA 6) and Frieda Grumbach (Optimist B), had varying degrees of success. While Emma and Gero had difficulties with the weather conditions and were able to place at the back of the field, Frieda managed to reach 16th place out of 56 participants in her class. A remarkable achievement!
However, the championship not only offered exciting competitions, but also the opportunity to exchange ideas with other athletes. The best placed in each boat class were given special honors. Maximilian Metz from the Plauer water sports club secured the title of state youth champion in Optimist B and was followed by Nora Boehme and Vivien Lindstedt, who also showed great performances.
Progress and tradition in sailing
The state youth championship in Rerik has a long tradition, as it was held for the third time after 1992 and 2010. So it's no wonder that interest in this event is always high.
