500 former high school graduates celebrate 75 years of gadebusch on a large scale!
Gadebusch, Deutschland - The reunion celebration in Gadebusch brings a touch of nostalgia into the city when around 500 former high school graduates return on this special day, July 3, 2025. Why wander into the distance? Here, at the 75th anniversary celebration of the Abitur training, well -known faces meet to exchange memories and consolidate old gangs. Led by Hans-Christoph Struck as the organizer, the participants not only expect a historic event, but also exciting stories.
Among the visitors are Hans Badenschier and Jürgen Mohrmann, who passed their high school diploma in 1953. Badenschier, currently living in Wittenberge, and Mohrmann from Schwerin, remember their school days in the then polytechnic high school (POS). "The initial difficulties in learning High German are still well remembered," said Badenschier, while telling the charismatic class teacher Hans-Heinrich Dobbertin with whom they could maintain a close relationship. This personal affection for teachers was a formative part of their school education.
roots of the high school graduates
The high school graduates of Gadebusch have experienced a piece of GDR history. The pols, the core of the school system in the GDR, formed the starting point for its academic career. By 1981, students were able to switch to the extended high school (EOS) after the 8th grade to obtain their high school diploma or to complete vocational training with Abitur. This offered talented students the opportunity to qualify for studying, whereby access was heavily regulated. Only about 10 percent of a year were given the chance to visit the EOS, especially the students with special achievements or social commitment, such as in the FDJ or as future officers.
The experiences of Badenschier and Mohrmann illustrate that in addition to the learning material, interpersonal experiences at school also played a crucial role. Excursions to Weimar were not only education, but also adventures that welded the young people together and shaped them.
a look into the past
The historical main book of the high school, which has been the names of the students since 1949, testifies to the long tradition of the Gadebusch educational location. The recent participants, who only passed their Abitur in 2016, were also part of the greeting and are now part of this historic celebration. The festivities that took place in the past every two years had to be suspended due to the pandeman and are now a more valuable event for the alumni.
The memories of school time that come to life at such a meeting emphasize the value of education at a time when everything was under the social and political framework of the GDR. According to a study by the German Center for University and Science Research from 1990, a large part of the high school graduates have taken a similarly successful life path, regardless of political conditions. Almost two thirds of the respondents can be found in higher positions and more than half are satisfied with their resume. This shows that the high school graduates from that time, despite the restricted possibilities in schools, had a good hand for their future.
A successful occasion for old friends to come together in Gadebusch and to let the stories come alive from that time - this makes this 3rd July 2025 an unforgettable day for everyone involved.
