Förderverein Friedrichshagen in danger: Who saves the church?
In Friedrichshagen, the association is faced with a serious challenge to preserve the church there. The association, founded in April 2011, which takes care of the urgently in need of renovation, sees himself without successors for the chair. Joachim Schünemann, who has headed the club since its foundation, wants to hand in his post. The 2nd chairman Regina Hacker also has little desire for another term. A new election of the board, which was originally scheduled on April 29, 2023, was postponed to June 24, 2023. There will be decided whether there will be a new chairman or whether the association, which organizes concerts three times a year, has to enter the dissolution phase.
The village church of Friedrichshagen is not only an important place for the village community, but also a cultural contact point. Regular services, devotions and firms strengthen the coexistence in the small Mecklenburg village near the Wismarer Bay. The church is of particular importance for the population who is committed to their beautification. According to the statements of the Förderverein and [Ostsee Zeitung] (https://www.ostsee-zeitung.de/lokales/nordwestmecklenburg/friedrichshagen-kein-foberververein-der-doht-aus-our7io4qcfbwdodefjsxhv3kpa.html? the baroque altar of 1704 and the pulpit are urgently renovated to preserve the time-honored church.
The importance of the church
churches are much more than mere buildings. They are also places of prayer, sights and home ponds in the communities. The foundation for the preservation of church monuments in Germany has been supporting the preservation of Protestant churches for over 20 years. This underlines the severity of the task, because the costs for renovations are often high and the funds are limited. The association has successfully generated funds in the past, also through EU funding. But without committed members and a new board, the future of the association and thus the church will remain uncertain.
As Mayor Steve Springer emphasizes, it would be desirable if a successor was found to continue the valuable work of the support association. The Church of Friedrichshagen is not only an important center for the villagers, but also attracts travelers who are looking for a break in the shadow of the historical walls. The preservation of the traditional church is a task that requires commitment and initiative.
In order to master the challenges and secure the continued existence of the association, a new chairman is asked who does not necessarily have to be a member of the club, but should have experience in the club management. Time is forced, because a resolution could not only endanger the cultural events, but also the spiritual home of the community.
