Generations united: Hoffest in Wedendorf celebrates 18 years of tradition!
On August 24, 2025, the residents' 18th street festival was celebrated in Wedendorf. In the new street Am Hof, which connects the houses and people with each other, young and old gathered together for a social get-together. This special tradition, which has existed since 2006, has the task of strengthening the neighborhood and welcoming new newcomers - a perfect occasion to celebrate again.
Under the organizational talent of the new team, consisting of Christian Pilat, Monique Retsch, Madeleine Jarchow and Julia Pilzecker, the next generation took over the reins for the first time. “The idea for the Hoffest came up during a topping-out ceremony,” explains one of the organizers. The original initiators of the tradition were visibly pleased with the fresh perspectives that the new team brought.
Celebration and thanksgiving
The courtyard festival was not only celebrated as a gathering of local residents, but also as the inauguration of the newly designed street, which, after a year of construction, can now leave the old, bumpy paving stones behind. In order to show their appreciation to the construction workers at LUT GmbH, they were warmly invited, which made the neighborhood campaign even warmer.
A good neighborhood is worth its weight in gold – this was also proven by the event in Wedendorf. Street festivals not only promote contacts between local residents, they also create a real sense of community. “These are moments that connect,” said one participant. In addition to good conversations, there were also games, music and delicious food provided by the neighbors.
Enjoyment and commitment
“More and more neighbors are actively coming together to organize the festival,” reports organizer Monique Retsch with passionate conviction. Planning such a celebration is not child's play. It requires the establishment of a festival committee whose members meet regularly to clarify the details: from organizing food and drinks to entertainment and logistics. “There are actually hardly any barriers,” says Retsch. “A number of neighbors contribute their talents, be it as storytellers or through musical contributions.”
A highlight for the little ones was a children's program that included games and competitions such as cherry stone spitting and rusk eating competitions. Such actions not only promote cohesion, but also allow young talent to blossom.
live community
What makes a good neighborhood party? The ingredients are often simple: good planning, committed neighbors and a pinch of good humor. The organization should begin months in advance; a festival committee can be set up to distribute the tasks fairly. And the budget? This is covered by form contributions, sales stands or sponsors from the area.
For the residents of Wedendorf, the Hoffest is much more than just an event. It is a living tradition that strengthens community and brings generations together. The chronicle of the Hoffest has been kept since the beginning to record the development of this wonderful tradition. The new ones bring a breath of fresh air and the old ones bring a piece of history - a perfect mix that could be experienced at this street festival.
