Hammer attack in court: perpetrator remains unpunished despite chaos!

A 37-year-old man is causing a stir in the Neubrandenburg Justice Center, even though he ultimately cannot be convicted. The man who damaged seven windows of the justice center with a hammer in June 2019 left behind damages amounting to around 3,000 euros. The Northern Courier reported that the public prosecutor's office charged him with this property damage. But it took more than six years for a trial to take place. Several factors, including the coronavirus pandemic and personnel changes on the judicial panel, led to this long delay.

During these years, as it turned out, the defendant could not be found at times. This contributed significantly to the process being drawn out. Anyone who would have thought it would just be the windows was wrong: the man had also committed trespassing in the justice center, and this act is also time-barred.

The list of other allegations is long. He was accused, among other things, because in the past he tended to damage property when he was dissatisfied with decisions made by doctors, banks or courts. He also attacked a security guard in the regional court. This incident also occurred in 2019. The defendant refused to put down a pocket knife and then attacked one of the officers. It almost had dire consequences, but a colleague with experience in martial arts was able to prevent anything worse from happening.

Found guilty but punished mildly

The jury found the defendant not only guilty of the attack on the security guard, but also of four other counts of damaging property. So the man had to admit his actions and confessed. But what is the punishment? He also destroyed a card reader in a doctor's office because he was not treated because of an invalid health insurance card. Even during his time in the hospital, he let his anger out and threw chairs out of the window because the treatment was taking too long.

The court imposed a fine of 100 daily rates of 15 euros each for all of these incidents, making a total of 1,500 euros. When making its decision, the court took into account both the long processing time and the defendant's impunity since 2021. It was also clearly communicated that the man would have to go to prison for 100 days if he did not pay the fine. Of the total of ten charges, seven remained unpunished because they were already statute-barred.

The man's defense attorney did not hesitate to acknowledge the verdict in the courtroom. The public prosecutor, however, still needs time to decide whether it wants to appeal the verdict.

It shows once again how complex the justice system can be and how long proceedings can drag on, which puts pressure not only on those affected, but also on the institutions. This provides information about the exact processes and responsibilities within the judiciary Neubrandenburg District Court, which is also responsible, among other things, for issuing land register extracts - however, applications for this must only be submitted by post.

This case also highlights the challenges in the area of criminal law, particularly in relation to damage to property. Loud Legal knowledge online The nature of property damage can be complex, which is also evident here. Despite the defendant's numerous offenses, the punishment was ultimately rather lenient, which is not uncommon given the statute of limitations and the long processing time.

In a society in which one can quickly come into conflict with the law, the discussion about laws and their enforcement as well as reducing sentences remains an exciting topic that always creates new discussions.
