Künstlerhaus Schloss Polsterow opens studios – historical treasures await!

In the tranquil artists' house Schloss Polsterow, located in the picturesque region of northwest Mecklenburg, a colorful group of artists is preparing for some exciting days. On November 15th and December 13th, 2025, studio visitors will have the opportunity to discover the creative works and personalities of scholarship holders from all over the world. Among them are Ruofan Chen from Shanghai, Hojeong Lee from South Korea, Mara Pollak from the Netherlands, Anne Schillings from Germany and Ghaku Okazaki from Japan. The studios open their doors from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and small meals and drinks are available in the Schlossklause to ensure your physical well-being.

What will be particularly exciting on these days will be the insight into the restoration of a baroque wall covering that was only recently rediscovered. This wall covering, which is around 260 years old, was lost for decades and was discovered by chance in a garage near Grevesmühlen. Restorer Annette Seifert ensures that this rare find, which is described by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation as being of high artistic quality and documentation value, shines in new splendor again. Dr. Ramona Dornbusch, the director of the state office, emphasizes the importance of this historical heritage in a region where comparable textile wall coverings have hardly been preserved.

Promoting culture

The restoration of the tapestry is supported by the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung and the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest. The promotion of art and culture in Germany plays a central role, especially when it comes to preserving cultural heritage. The federal cultural administration is an important interface that implements the cultural policy funding decisions of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Media. Your support ranges from the restoration of important cultural monuments to the financial support of institutions in the visual and performing arts, music, literature and media.

A large part of the funds goes into construction work that contributes to the preservation of palaces, fortresses and museums. Sustainability plays an important role in ensuring future generations have access to these valuable cultural assets.

Artists in focus

The scholarship holders at the Künstlerhaus not only carry out their own projects, but also contribute to the cultural diversity of the region. Their international roots bring fresh perspectives to the local art scene. The Künstlerhaus therefore offers an exciting space for creative exchange and collaboration.

Overall, the upcoming days in the Künstlerhaus are a wonderful opportunity to be inspired by the diversity and creativity of the artists and to gain an insight into the restoration work on historical works of art. So if you feel like going on an artistic tour of discovery, you should mark the dates in red on your calendar!
