Coin Festival 2025: Godetalers in Gadebusch inspire at a record pace!

On July 6, 2025, Gadebusch not only celebrated the coin festival, but also its proud 800th anniversary. The festivities transformed the old town into a lively interplay of dance, music and culinary delicacies. The Coin Festival, which has been celebrated on the first weekend in July since 1995, once again offered an exciting program this year that was enjoyed by a large audience.

Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy numerous attractions, including children's carousels, lottery and ball booths and various artistic performances on the festival stage at the market. An impressive fireworks display on Friday evening made the hearts of those present beat faster. Participation was free, which made the festival even more inviting.

The Godetaler: A unique souvenir

One of the highlights of the festival was the presentation of the Godetaler, which was brought to life by the Schwerin Riflemen's Guild and the coin fairy Heike Dombrowski, who came especially from Leipzig. Ramona Drews presented the Godetaler, which was made from an aluminum-zinc alloy using a historic coin minting machine. This year's motif shows a silhouette of the church, castle and town hall and is a homage to the city's 800th anniversary.

The demand was enormous: the Godetalers made of old gold were sold out after just 45 minutes. The brass versions also quickly found their buyers. Therefore Godetalers made of real fine silver were also offered, which were also very popular. Ramona Drews emphasized that the proceeds from the sales will go to a good cause - this year the city's church will be supported.

A look at the festival week

The anticipation of the big anniversary began on June 27th with the Gadebusch Music Night and a variety of other events until July 6th. In addition to cultural highlights such as the special exhibition “1945 – The End of the Second World War” and the parade to mark the 800th anniversary, the festival service on Sunday morning was another highlight. The entire week was peppered with activities that invited both citizens and guests to actively participate.

The town of Gadebusch, one of the oldest in Mecklenburg, is asking all citizens, clubs, companies and institutions to take part in the celebrations. First mentioned in a document in 1225, Gadebusch celebrates its historical heritage with passion.
