Mint Festival 2025: Godetaler in Gadebusch inspire at a record pace!
Gadebusch, Deutschland - On July 6, 2025, Gadebusch not only celebrated the coin festival, but also its proud 800th anniversary. The festivities converted the old town into a lively interaction of dance, music and culinary delights. The coin festival, which has been celebrated on the first weekend in July since 1995, offered an exciting program this year, which was perceived by a large audience.
The visitors had the opportunity to enjoy numerous attractions, including children's carousels, lottery and ball stalls as well as various artistic performances on the festival stage on the market. An impressive fireworks display on Friday evening made the hearts of those present beat faster. Participation was free of charge, which made the festival even more inviting.
The Godetaler: A unique memorial
One of the highlights of the festival was the presentation of the Godetaler, which was launched by the Schützenzildft Schwerin and the Münzfee Heike Dombrowski, which had come from Leipzig. Ramona Drews presented the Godetaler, which was made with a historical mint machine from an aluminum zinc alloy. This year's motif shows a silhouette of the church, castle and town hall and is a tribute to the 800th anniversary of the city.
The demand was enormous: after just 45 minutes, the Godetalers were sold out from old gold. The brass variants also quickly found their buyers. Therefore, Godetalers were also offered from real fine silver, which were also very popular. Ramona Drews emphasized that the income from the sales benefits a good cause - this year the city's church is to be supported.
A look at the festival week
The anticipation for the big anniversary began on June 27 with the Gadebuscher Musiknacht and a variety of other events until July 6th. In addition to cultural highlights such as the special exhibition "1945-the end of World War II" and the parade to the 800th anniversary, the festival service on Sunday morning was another highlight. The entire week was peppered with activities that invited both citizens and guests to participate.
The city of Gadebusch, one of the oldest in Mecklenburg, requested all citizens, clubs, companies and institutions to participate in the celebrations. For the first time in 1225, Gadebusch celebrates his historical heritage with passion.
