Gadebusch Coin Festival 2025: Godetaler and good deeds in a celebratory mood!

Last week a real highlight was celebrated in Gadebusch - the Coin Festival 2025! For the first time, visitors were able to admire the newly minted Godetaler, which was made with great attention to detail. Northern Courier reported by Ramona Drews, who proudly presented her Godetaler. This thaler, minted from an aluminum-zinc alloy, shows the silhouette of the church, castle and town hall and commemorates the city's 800th anniversary.

The coin minting machine, operated by Timmi-Torsten Hennig, was in continuous operation on Saturday and received not only praise but also great demand. No wonder the old gold alloy sold out after just 45 minutes! The brass thalers also quickly found new owners, while real fine silver Godetalers were offered. The efforts of the Gadebusch coin fairies who supported the sale really paid off. Coin fairy Heike Dombrowski traveled especially from Leipzig to enrich the event.

A celebration for everyone

The coin festival is part of the major celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the city of Gadebusch, which has its origins in 1225 with the receipt of “Lübischen Stadtrecht”. The city is one of the oldest cities in Mecklenburg and is celebrating this significant anniversary with a week of festivals that begins on June 27th and runs until July 6th, 2025. Preparations are in full swing and the city is calling on citizens, clubs and companies to get involved. How Gadebusch.de reports, numerous events are being planned that offer something for all age groups.

Visitors can look forward to a varied program that ranges from music to lectures and parades. The celebration starts on June 27th with a Gadebusch music night, followed by explorations of the “Romanesque beginnings” in the town church and a “legendary” family day.

The coin festival in detail

But the coin festival itself also has so much to offer: From July 4th to 6th, the sports field at Burgsee as well as Lübsche Straße and the market square will be the scene for exciting activities. A parade (July 5th) and a festive church service (July 6th) round off the celebrations. Ines Wiencke, the branch manager of Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest, explained that the proceeds from the Godetaler sale go to a good cause. This year they will be used for the renewal of the Legends and Fairy Tales Street, a project that not only contributes to beautification but also enhances the culture of the region.

Particular attention is paid to the diverse activities that are designed to bring young and old together. The city of Gadebusch shows that it is not only reflecting on its long history, but is also looking to the future. Offers, suggestions and ideas for the festival week can be sent at any time by email to 800Years@gadebusch.info.

Overall, it can be said: Gadebusch is ready for 800 years, and the 2025 coin festival is a successful start to a spectacular anniversary that will keep the city and its citizens highly valued in the years to come.
