Neukloster's citizens are fighting for their post office - DHL is withdrawing!
In Neukloster, the lack of a post office is causing discontent among the citizens. Mayor Frank Meier sharply criticizes Deutsche Post because the necessary infrastructure has been lacking for some time to meet the increasing demands of local residents. The conversion of the former purple bakery into a post office was abruptly stopped because the craftsmen stayed away from work. “There is something going on,” explains Meier in a conversation, making it clear that his community urgently needs a post office.
The situation hasn't been any better so far: a former DHL shop that operated in the Penny market could not be maintained, which made supplying the people of Neukloster even more difficult. According to the mayor, a new location next to the town hall on the market square would have been ideal. The branch could be easily reached there and would hopefully meet the necessary demand, which, as Meier notes, appears to be misunderstood by the Federal Network Agency. He therefore sent a letter to the Federal Network Agency, but has so far waited in vain for a response.
Meier states that the figures presented for the closure are susceptible to manipulation. Many citizens believe that short opening times and irregular availability have influenced visitor numbers. In this context, DHL points out the suspected lack of demand and explains that the basic requirements for a stand-alone branch are not met. Instead, the company is increasingly relying on a partner model - but there doesn't seem to be any interest in a partnership in Neukloster to establish a DHL shop.
An alternative solution in the form of a parcel station was brought into play, but citizens are also dissatisfied here. Although this serves as an option for sending and receiving packages, it does not offer the usual functions of a regular branch. The parcel stations are often overcrowded and collecting parcels is complicated as they often have to be picked up from a distant DHL shop. This is anything but ideal and causes frustration among the population.
The customer in focus
DHL offers many drop-off points for parcels, from post offices to parcel shops in supermarkets or kiosks. There are currently more than 38,000 DHL drop-off points, which offer customers a variety of advantages: numerous locations nearby, flexible opening times, short waiting times, and the necessary shipping accessories are always available locally. With DHL, residents can also buy parcel stamps online and print them out directly, which makes the shipping process much easier. Using DHL parcel shops gives customers the opportunity to send parcels in their area, which is particularly crucial in times of online shopping.
But despite these comprehensive offerings, Neukloster residents feel left alone without a real branch. The mayor remains optimistic and would like to continue discussions with the DHL Group about possible future buyers for a DHL shop. “We are interested in a solution,” explain those responsible at DHL, thereby expressing their openness to new partnerships. Perhaps the right partner will soon be found to fulfill the wishes of the citizens and revitalize Neukloster a little more.
Citizens are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas because there is always room for new solutions. The future of postal services in Neukloster remains uncertain. The road to a new post office may be long, but the commitment of Meier and the citizens could make the difference. After all, there is no need to doubt two things - the need and desire for a post office in Neukloster cannot be questioned.
