Grandma as a new mother: Wismar celebrates new business and rugby camp!

There's a lot going on in Wismar at the moment and people are feeling agitated. The focus is particularly on Simone G., who has now taken responsibility for her seven-year-old granddaughter Julia after the tragic loss of her daughter. The death of her daughter, who died as a result of alcohol abuse, has taken a toll not only on the family but also on the community. Luckily, Julia was not injured in a car accident, which makes the situation a little easier for the grandmother, who now takes on the role of mother, comforter and supporter of her granddaughter Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

However, there is also positive news from the region: from July 4th to August 9th, the “Threepenny Opera” will be performed in St. George's Church. Tickets cost between 36 and 44 euros and are available both online and at the Wismar Tourist Information Center. This could be a welcome distraction for Simone and Julia.

Sports and entertainment

The sporting activities in Wismar also attract many people. FC Anker Wismar will play a test match against FC Hansa Rostock in the Kurt Bürger Stadium on June 28th. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. and there have already been over 1,000 tickets sold, showing the fans' anticipation. Maps are not only available online, but also directly from the tourist information center, like this Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

But that's not all: From June 27th to 29th, a rugby camp will take place in Hornstorf near Wismar, which will be led by New Zealand rugby professionals. Here up to 70 children have the opportunity to learn the basics of rugby and get to know values such as discipline and team spirit. Such initiatives are particularly important when you consider that around 11,700 children and young people in Germany had to be treated for acute alcohol abuse in 2021, and fortunately these are fewer and fewer Destatis reported.

New perspectives

In July, Woolworth will also open a new branch in the Marktkauf Center Wismar. The new contact point will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and employs around twelve people. This opening shows that Wismar is also looking ahead economically, which is good for the community.

Amid these developments, Simone tries to make the best of her situation and is a wonderful example of resilience in difficult times. Wismar has a lot to offer, and for its citizens it shows that both sad and joyful moments can be combined.
