Guesswork about railway renovation: Grevesmühlen and Bad Kleinen affected!

The renovation work on the railway line between Grevesmühlen and Bad Kleinen is in full swing and is going according to plan. The route has been closed to rail customers since March 2025, and they must switch to a replacement rail service by July 31st. The buses now shuttle between the junctions, ensuring that travelers are not left in the lurch. This is reported by the Baltic Sea newspaper.

A particularly remarkable detail is a new mound of earth in Grevesmühlen, which was raised near the railway bridge. This serves as a storage area for the excavated earth that occurs when laying cables and has nothing to do with the construction of a pedestrian bridge. A closer look at the project shows that the renovation covers a total of 63 kilometers of route and is expected to be completed by spring 2028. The trains there should then be able to travel at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Comprehensive modernizations

But that's not all the railways have planned there. The Schönberg (Meckl) and Grieben (Meckl) train stations are also on the list for modernization. A new connecting curve at Bad Kleinen will make it possible to create direct train connections between Lübeck and Schwerin without the trains having to turn around in Bad Kleinen. In addition, a new railway overpass will be built on Zickhusener Weg in Gallentin, while the overtaking tracks for freight trains in Bobitz and Grevesmühlen will be extended. These details are on the website of DB Regio Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to find.

Deutsche Bahn's infrastructure program is the largest since the rail reform of 1994 and has many goals. Investments are not only being made in the renovation and expansion of an extensive rail network, but also in digitalized options. The aim is to improve the punctuality and quality of train services, accompanied by an investment package worth 45 billion euros. This information was provided by the German railways published.

With these comprehensive modernization measures, the railway will not only increase capacity, but also sustainably improve the travel experience for the next few years. This is a good move on the part of those responsible to make the railway fit for the future!
