Huge fire in Rehna: Straw press causes 220,000 euros in damage!
Last week there was a significant fire in Rehna, Northwest Mecklenburg district, which affected a straw press during field work. According to the Baltic Sea newspaper This resulted in damage amounting to around 220,000 euros. Fortunately, the farmer was uninjured and was able to uncouple his towing vehicle in time before the fire could spread further. The exact cause of the fire is currently unclear.
The fire department was able to avert a major disaster because the farmer's quick response ensured that the damage was limited to the agricultural equipment. However, the incident has once again brought into focus the dangers during the harvest season, where unforeseen fires can also occur.
Fire incidents in the region
A similar incident recently occurred in Twistringen in the Diepholz district. Here, a square baler and a tractor burned down completely, causing damage of around 420,000 euros. The NDR reports that the farmer was driving the team into a field that had already been harvested during the harvest season when the fire occurred. When the fire brigade arrived, the entire vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Worryingly, the tractor's burst tire sent burning rubber into an adjacent field and ignited straw lying there. A total of around 65 people from three local fire departments were necessary to quickly bring the fire under control. The emergency services reported enormous physical strain caused by the protective clothing.
Both incidents show that harvesting is not only a time of prosperity, but also a phase in which the risk of fires in agriculture increases. Farmers are well advised to always be vigilant and take appropriate safety precautions.
