Refurbishment of the Rehna-Nesow bike path will start later than planned!

Nordwestmecklenburg, Deutschland - An interesting topic concerns cyclists in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg: The renovation of the bike path between Rehna and Nesow will begin later than planned. According to Nordkurier now starts on July 28th and is expected to end on August 15, 2025. Shifting lies in capacity bottlenecks at the commissioned construction company that should carry out the work.

For the time of the renovation, the bike path is completely blocked, which means that cyclists have to be redirected to federal road 104. The vehicle traffic, on the other hand, is passed past the construction site on each other. These measures cost around 160,000 euros that are financed by federal funds.

meaning of the cycle path construction in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The project is part of a larger initiative to improve the cycle paths in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. By 2033, over 200 kilometers of new cycle paths are to be built along state roads to expand the existing network of around 1110 kilometers to over 1300 kilometers. A total of around 75 million euros are scheduled for this ambitious project, which are distributed over a period of ten years. This information was announced in a current communication of the State Government

The Secretary of State Ines Jesse and Dr. René Fehrg, the director of the State Office for Road Construction and Transport, presented the measures of the 2024 road construction program for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, in which around 171.1 million euros are to be invested in roads and cycle paths. 13.5 million euros are planned for cycle path construction. The goal is clear: the focus is on the preservation of existing roads and the expansion of bike paths.

cycle path network in focus

The continuous growth of the cycle path network has been pursued since 2016. During this period, more than 194 kilometers were created new bike paths on federal roads and 146 kilometers on state roads. As a result, the degree of equipment with bike paths on federal roads has increased from 44.5% to 54.9%, while the proportion of state roads has grown from 28.7% to 32.9%. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is above the nationwide average.

A digital map of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wheel network planner is available to all interested cyclists and shows the usable streets and paths in the region. This offer is particularly attractive for all those who want to cycle through the beautiful landscape safely and comfortably.

The upcoming construction work is an important step towards a better and safer network of cycle paths, which ultimately also supports the environmental idea and makes cycling even more attractive in the region.
