Cleanliness in northwest Mecklenburg: Where life is best!

In the Northwest Mecklenburg region, which stretches between Wismar and Hagenow, clean quality of life is very important. A recent survey shows that this region takes the top spot in the country when it comes to cleanliness with 7.75 points. For comparison: the average is 7.42 points. The city of Wismar in particular takes second place in this ranking with 7.49 points among cities with more than 30,000 inhabitants, just behind Schwedt/Oder, which is crowned with 7.75 points. Here, waste disposal as well as the handling of dog excrement and road traffic have caused heated discussions. Nevertheless, people experience a high quality of life and a strong awareness of cleanliness, as nordkurier.de reports.

Especially in the region's smaller towns such as Lützow with 7.47 points and Rehna with 7.44 points, it is clear that the issue of cleanliness is not without criticism. In Wismar, for example, there are concerns about torn yellow bags and garbage left on the streets. The residents are demanding more commitment from the city administration to overcome these challenges.

Quality of life and feeling of security

Another point of interest is residents' sense of security in northwest Mecklenburg, which is rated at 6.55 points - above the average of 6.43 points. The safer regions include Gadebusch with 6.91 and Lützow with 6.77 points. For 2024, 9,019 crimes were recorded, representing a decrease of 6.6% compared to the previous year. The statistics show that Northwest Mecklenburg is not only ahead when it comes to cleanliness, but also when it comes to personal safety.

In a direct comparison, the Ludwigslust-Parchim district shows solid values with a cleanliness of 7.43 points and a feeling of security of 6.3 points. However, it can be seen here that there are differences between the places: Hagenow, for example, is significantly behind other communities with 6.08 points for cleanliness and 5.6 points for safety. In contrast, there are steadfast cities like Brüel, which boasts 7.61 points for cleanliness and 7.55 points for safety.

Waste management as a constant topic

Waste management in the district has not been without controversy. Residents often demand more when it comes to trash cans and controls to increase cleanliness. The statistics on waste management in Germany show that the processing of plastic waste and the creation of waste balances are essential topics that also have great importance in the region.

While the annual home checks attracted over 16,664 participants across Germany, over 3,000 responses came specifically from northwest Mecklenburg and Ludwigslust-Parchim. The focus of the survey was on assessing the quality of life and cleanliness in the respective regions. An evaluation spectrum of 1 to 10 was used to capture the various aspects in a differentiated manner.

In summary, it can be said that Northwest Mecklenburg and Ludwigslust-Parchim do quite well in terms of cleanliness and safety compared to other regions. Still, there is room for improvement, particularly in urban centers like Wismar and Hagenow, where the challenges remain a constant topic of conversation.
