Rostock Evershagen: Water pipe break ensures chaos and closures!

In the early Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, a shocking event hit the residents in Rostock Evershagen: a water pipe break caused violent floods in Bertolt-Brecht-Straße and Ehm-Welk-Straße. At around 01:20 a.m. the water pipe broke in front of a multi -family house, showered sidewalks and streets and left more than 100 vehicles in 20 centimeter water, such as NDR reported.

The situation was serious: either from the water pipe or the emergency service of Nordwasser parked the water and thus prevented further flood. The residents, about 150 households, had to adjust to uncertain times without drinking water. "It is unclear when the water will flow again," said the responsible bodies. Damage to walkway plates and curbs as well as in some cellars of the apartment building were inevitable, which further tightened the situation.

repair work and traffic restrictions

To clean up the location, two watercrots were used. The area is currently identified and temporarily locked up so that cleaning and repair work can be carried out. The Ehm-Welk-Straße is expected to remain partially closed until around 10 a.m.

Similar incidents are not uncommon. According to a report on HuHang Group , almost 30 % of the water supply systems are affected by corroded management networks. Corrosion not only leads to leaks, but can also cause considerable costs that go into the billions. Such problems must be addressed to secure the public infrastructure and avoid future disasters.

The importance of a modern water infrastructure

The incidents like the current pipe break in Rostock recall us how important a modern and robust water supply is. Ineffective printing management and old materials are common causes of such pipe breaks. The municipality should therefore invest in modern infrastructures to prevent such incidents and to secure water quality.

In the meantime, the affected residents have no choice but to hope for the rapid remedial of the damage and to endure the inconvenience of the lack of water. So it happens that many in the neighborhood survive the time with inquiries and support until normality. What is the name of it? "Opposites attract", but in this situation everyone hope for a quick return to the usual conditions.
