1.1 million euros for charitable purposes in MV: This is how it was donated!

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, money from judicial proceedings flows into social projects. The pleasing result: Over 1.1 million euros were distributed to non-profit organizations last year. The White Ring, the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and the Johanniter Accident Assistance are the main beneficiaries of these funds, which are awarded when proceedings in minor offenses are discontinued. As the South Germans reported, around 720,000 euros also found their way into the state treasury, which means a small financial increase for the region.

The Higher Regional Court in Rostock maintains a comprehensive list of around 650 non-profit organizations that can be considered as recipients. The highest donations last year went to the Dreikönigshospice Neubrandenburg with 32,540 euros, followed by the “Child in the Hospital” support association with 30,100 euros and the Wismar and surrounding area traffic police, which received 26,800 euros.

Monetary requirements as a source of financing

The possibility of imposing monetary penalties as an alternative sanction has always existed in Germany. For minor offenses, proceedings can often be stopped by paying a fine without resulting in a conviction. When allocating this money, judges and public prosecutors decide which organizations will benefit. The regulations behind these decisions are in the State government of MV documented.

But how does it work exactly? When cases are closed, judges can choose whether the money goes to the state treasury or benefits charitable organizations. A new business area has even developed under the term “fine marketing”. Here, experts advise how non-profits can more successfully receive funds from funding requirements. The Scale Campus explains that organizations need proof of their non-profit status and a convincing presentation of their work. In addition, an annual report is mandatory to provide evidence of the use of funds.

Long-term development and forecasts

In the last ten years, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has already distributed around 14.3 million euros in cash, of which around 8.8 million euros went to non-profit organizations. These figures show that the granting of monetary incentives is not just a temporary solution, but rather contributes to the financing of important social projects in the long term.

Associations that would like to be on the list of beneficiary organizations must apply to the Higher Regional Court in Rostock and prove their non-profit status. The practice of allocating funds has been discussed in the media for years, so there could be a continued high demand for club funding in the future.
