56 years of boxing for Rostock: Coach Wolfgang Baas receives award!

What is happening in boxing in Rostock? A very special honor was recently the focus: Wolfgang Baas, who has been a volunteer trainer in the Rostock police sports club for an impressive 56 years, received a big thank you for his commitment. Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger (Die Linke) honored Baas for his outstanding achievements and acknowledged his tireless work with the athletes.

In the police sports club, Wolfgang Baas is not only a coach, but also a real support for the entire club, especially in times full of challenges. He has been bringing boxing closer to children and young people for more than half a century and attaches great importance to the sustainable development of young talent. Training new trainers is also part of his duties and shows his deep commitment to the sport.

A look at boxing

Boxing is one of the oldest Olympic sports and is much more than just a competition. In addition to promoting endurance and strength, the training is perfect for developing coordination and reflexes. Athletes of all ages, from 7 to 75 years old, are warmly welcomed to the Rostock Police Sports Club. The club has over 370 active members who regularly train in the Arena Tschaikowskistraße 45.

The training times offer a wide selection for beginners and advanced users:

Wednesday Beginners & intermediates, advanced – 1st Tuesday of the month strength circle
Wednesday Beginners & advanced, sparring for advanced users (after consultation)
Thursday Beginners & Intermediates, Advanced

There is a special “Boxing Training 50plus” offer for older athletes. Anyone who is interested can register for a trial training session, which has a variety of benefits for physical fitness and self-confidence. The training is also offered at the Toitenwinkel location Olof-Palme-Straße 25.

Volunteering in sports

Wolfgang Baas is a shining example of the valuable work of volunteer trainers in sport. Just like him, there are many committed people who are committed to the development of athletes and the organization of competitions. According to the Maltese, around 75,000 volunteer referees and coaches work in Germany. They are essential for the smooth running of competitions and for promoting young talent.

The importance of volunteering in sport cannot be overstated. Wolfgang Baas is aware of this and plans to stay involved in boxing in the future, even if he would like to slow down a bit.
