Construction site chaos in Rostock: Neubrandenburger Straße will remain closed until November!

In Rostock, the construction work on Neubrandenburger Straße remains a significant construction site that will last until the end of November 2025. Since February 2025, work has been underway on a comprehensive redesign of around 220 meters, which will affect both pedestrian and bicycle traffic. From next Wednesday, August 13, 2025, there will be a diversion for pedestrians and cyclists, which will lead via Kassenbohmer Weg and the sidewalk that runs parallel to the railway line. This represents an important adjustment for everyone who has to commute through this area, as the westbound lane as well as the pedestrian and cycle paths are affected. The diversion will come into effect at 7:30 a.m.

A further look at the traffic situation shows that there is already an existing detour for traffic heading into the city, while traffic heading out of the city can continue to use one lane. The work also extends to the Röthsoll stop, which will be adapted for the duration of the construction work. The situation in Rostock makes it clear: drivers should prepare for extended travel times and consider alternative routes.

Additional transport projects

Was that just the beginning? In the southwest of Rostock, for example, Satower Straße is closed and traffic under the Goethe Bridge is only moving in one lane. There will be further major construction projects in the coming months that will lead to significant traffic restrictions. It is important to plan space for alternative routes, as construction work on another route, the connecting route, will begin on February 17th. A new district heating pipe will be laid there, followed by the renewal of the road surface, which is expected to take until June.

The complete closure of the connecting route is unavoidable because the new line is to be laid in the middle of the street. During this time, it will be particularly important for vehicle drivers to follow diversion signs and avoid the affected area as far as possible. On Neubrandenburger Straße, however, the direction out of town remains accessible; A diversion for traffic heading into the city leads via the Kassebohm residential area and from the A19 motorway via Tessiner Straße.

The construction work will nevertheless provide a certain amount of relief for cyclists and pedestrians. You can still pass through the construction site, also to better manage the additional traffic flow. A shared footpath and cycle path on the eastern side and a separate footpath and cycle path on the western side of the street are also planned. A stop on both sides is also being planned, which will further improve local transport in the region. NDR reports about the extensive traffic adjustments that will extend until the end of November Northern Courier points out the challenges that the various construction sites pose for Rostock road users.
